I had never purchased flight cancellation insurance before. Nonetheless, something within me said YES, do it. So I did.

Despite living in a fatherless world, my siblings accept me. I booked a flight to visit my sisters. My destination was the Caribbean.

I had only seen some sisters twice and others not at all. I felt the urge to see them again. I booked my flight and added cancellation insurance, just in case.

I anxiously awaited my departure date. It was getting close.

A week before my trip, at 6:30 am, I was awakened by a disturbing telephone call. It was a long distance. A close friend was at the other end of the line. Her voice was hesitant.

“I do not know how to tell you this,” she said. She then stalled for a while.

My friend then announced that one of my sisters had died. It was at the hands of a reckless driver. The caller advised me that my sister passed away a few hours ago in the hospital that morning.

“There must be some mistake.” I quickly responded. “No! my sister is strong.” She will be okay!” I insisted.
